A message from Mr Renshaw

What a Wonderful Term!

As we wrap up another busy and rewarding term, I’d like to celebrate the many achievements of our students, staff, and community. From the 150 Year celebrations, classroom learning and creative projects to sporting events, excursions, and public speaking, it has been a term filled with growth, joy, and connection.

Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday break and look forward to another exciting term of learning and fun ahead!

Kindergarten 2026 - dismissal time changing in Term 4

From the beginning of Term 4, Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 3:00 pm, aligning their dismissal time with the rest of the school.

We are sharing this information early to give families time to make any necessary adjustments to afternoon arrangements before Term 4 begins.

Kindergarten families will receive further reminders during the remainder of this term, including direct emails and a printed reminder note closer to the end of term.

Kindergarten Transition 2027

We are excited to welcome our newest learners and their families as they begin their transition into “big school”! Our Kindergarten Transition Program is designed to give children the chance to explore the school environment, meet new friends, and take part in fun learning activities that help build confidence and independence. Parents will also gain valuable insights into how we support student learning and wellbeing.

Our upcoming transition sessions for students beginning Kindergarten in 2027, will be held on:

  • Session 1: Thursday 29 October 2026
  • Session 2: Thursday 5 November 2026
  • Session 3: Thursday 12 November 2026

Please ensure your child is enrolled and has attended their enrolment interview prior to the Transition sessions. Enrol online at: https://hurstville-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-us/enrol

Please also share this information with friends, neighbours and family members who may be joining our school community in 2027.

We look forward to partnering with our families during this important milestone and can’t wait to begin the journey together!

Smart Watches and Personal Devices at School

A reminder to families that smart watches, mobile phones and other personal electronic devices are not to be used for non-learning purposes while students are at school, including before and after school while on school grounds.

This includes using devices to send or receive messages, make calls, play games, take photos or videos, or access other apps and online content. If a device is brought to school, it should remain switched off or away in bags unless a teacher has specifically approved its use for learning or another agreed purpose.

If families need to contact their child during the school day, please do so through the school office.

We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations with their children and helping us maintain a safe, focused and respectful learning environment.

Reminder: Toilets for Parents, Carers and Visitors

A reminder to all parents, carers and visitors that the toilets available for public use are located in the foyer of the Library.

For student safety and privacy, student toilets must not be used by parents, carers or any other members of the community at any time.

Please also share this reminder with grandparents, relatives or other adults who may collect children before or after school.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and appropriate environment for all students.

Pearl Pacific Uniform Shop – New Location

Pearl Pacific Uniform Shop will be moving to a new, more accessible location in Hurstville during the upcoming school holidays.

From Tuesday 6 October 2026, families will be able to visit the new shop at:

Shop 4/107 Forest Road, Hurstville NSW 2220

(located on the corner of The Avenue and Forest Road).

The current shop will close from Saturday 26 September to allow for the relocation and will remain closed during the first week of the school holidays.

Trading hours will remain unchanged:

  • Tuesday: 10:00 am–5:00 pm
  • Thursday: 10:00 am–5:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am–5:00 pm

Online ordering, delivery to school and home delivery services will also continue as usual.

The new location should provide an even more convenient and accessible uniform service for HPS families.

Parent Handbook on Attendance

Last year, we shared our Parent Handbook on Attendance, developed to provide families with clear and practical information about school attendance, including key policies, procedures and expectations.

As part of our ongoing focus on supporting strong attendance, we are resharing two important attendance visuals with our school community.

Image 1 will be displayed across classrooms and learning spaces and used with students to build their understanding of what regular attendance looks like.

Image 2 provides further detail about what different attendance percentages mean in terms of days missed from school and the potential impact on learning over time.

Together, these resources highlight an important message: every day at school matters. Even small amounts of missed learning can add up across a term or year.

We encourage families to take a moment to review these visuals and continue working with us to support regular attendance and maximise every child’s opportunity to learn, connect and succeed at school.

NSW Anti-Bullying Framework and SBSMP Update

This year, the NSW Government introduced the NSW Anti-Bullying Framework, strengthening the way schools work to prevent and respond to bullying. The Framework is built around four key areas: Preventing, Responding, Partnering and Implementing.

In response, we have updated our School Behaviour Support and Management Plan (SBSMP) to further strengthen our approach to preventing and responding to bullying and cyberbullying. The updated plan places a strong focus on prevention, student voice, partnership with families, timely and coordinated responses, ongoing support and monitoring.

Our SBSMP has also been updated to reflect the new NSW Student Code of Conduct, which is centred around three clear expectations for students:

  • Respect everyone
  • Be responsible
  • Be safe

These expectations will increasingly become part of the common language we use across the school as we continue our review of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework this year.

Families can access the updated School Behaviour Support and Management Plan and the NSW Anti-Bullying Framework below.

We encourage families to familiarise themselves with these resources. Strong partnerships among students, families, and the school are an important part of creating a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for every student.

These updated resources will also be available on our school website later this term.

P&C October Meeting - 27 October 2026

The P&C will hold the next meeting on-site at Hurstville Public School in the main staffroom on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at 9.15 am.

Please email the P&C at pchurstville@hotmail.com if you would like a question, concern or issue raised at the meeting.

Drop-off and Pick-up Reminder

A reminder that students should not arrive at school before 8:30am. When arriving in the morning, students are to remain seated under the COLA until the first bell at 8:40am. Afternoon pick-up is at 3:00pm.

Families who require supervision outside these hours are encouraged to enrol in the onsite OOSH service or access extra-curricular programs through external providers.

In wet weather, the front gate can become congested with umbrellas and drop-offs, creating unsafe conditions. Please remember that other gates are open and can be used to ease congestion.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.
