State Cross Country

A huge congratulations to the following students who made the long drive down the Yarra Valley Racecourse to compete in the SSV State Cross Country:

  • Leayla Pohl
  • Harry McShane
  • Ruby Fitzpatrick
  • Edie Kent
  • Archie Templeton
  • Astrid White

With a tough course and over 90 runners in each age group, our students showed great spirit in their individual race.  A massive congratulations to Leayla Pohl who came in 7th for the 15yo girls and Astrid White coming over the line in 24th place.

Thank you to the parents who supported their child at the event.

Coleraine Field and Game

Despite the cold windy weather, our clay target team of 24 students rose to the occasion at the recent Coleraine Field and Game competition, demonstrating their skill and determination.  The challenging weather conditions couldn't dampen their spirits.  The teams ability to preserve through the wind and intermittent showers to hit some very challenging targets paid off along with some great banter amongst squads, as we celebrated winners in all four categories.

Congratulations goes to the following individuals who won their respective age groups:

  • Over 15 boys - Jack Mansbridge
  • Under 15 boys - Justin Coates
  • Over 15 girls - Charlotte Braune - taking the win after a shoot off, best of 3
  • Under 15 girls - Georgie Harris

These four were also rewarded when they were announced as the winning best team.

This successful day would not have been possible without the unwavering support of parents who scored and encouraged along with a little coaching on the side, through the cold and wet conditions – their encouragement and dedication to our students' sporting endeavors continues to be invaluable to our program's success.

BAS Netball

Round 1 - Bye Round for Monivae

Round 2 - Wednesday, 6th August v Ballarat Clarendon College

On Wednesday this week at Ballarat High School, our Monivae First Netballers kicked off their return to BAS competition with a solid team performance against Ballarat Clarendon College.  Unfortunately, the girls went down by 9 at the final siren in what was a competitive game.

BACK L-R: Phoebe Dunn, Tara McIntyre, Imogen Thomas, Lily Raymond, Ruby Cleaver, Maddox Ryan, FRONT L-R: Holly Rook, Lucy McLaren, Grace Cleaver, Stella Rogers

While there is still plenty of improvement to be made in various aspects of their game, the girls’ work at training and understanding of the structures we are trying to implement and effort to form connection quickly was clear.  Their ability to adjust to attacking positional changes and work to achieve turnover ball was also pleasing.

A fantastic start to the competition — well done to our girls involved in this squad!

Best on court - Lily Raymond

GWR Soccer Year 7/8

On Wednesday, 6th August myself and the boys went to Ballarat to play GWR Soccer.  We had a great day and all played well together as a team.  The team had 7 people that played soccer and 4 that were AFL footballers.  I think people played the best they could and I was surprised to see how the people who don't play soccer played better than some of soccer players.  All round a really good performance and I hope to make the GWR Soccer again next year.

Billy Fitzpatrick

Year 7/8 Soccer Captain

Further to Billy’s report, I would like to congratulate the Year 7/8 boys who competed in the Year 8 competition.  Going in as the underdogs with once again no bench due to injuries and illness, the boys worked very hard all day.  With an early start to the day the boys were eager to get on the pitch, even happy to leave the cosy warm bus to face the freezing Ballarat weather (I’m sure it snowed at one stage).  With 3 Year 8 boys playing it meant we had to play in the Year 8 competition, therefore some of the opposition were a lot bigger than our team.  With some fancy footwork the boys proved that they were certainly skilled soccer players and that size didn't matter.  They drew 2 games and lost 2, only giving away 3 goals for the day.  A huge effort by all the players with some of the better players being Billy Fitzpatrick, Liam Ferguson (only goal scorer), Sineth Hansa (goalkeeper - only his 3rd time), Darcy Walsh, Finn Beattie and Chase Williams.  Thanks to Ciaran Behrendt (Year 11) for coaching the team and Julie Dohle as team manager.
