Year 9 RIST Taster Day

Anne Gough

Sixteen keen Year 9 students accompanied Mr Harms to the RIST Taster Day last Monday. They were introduced to the possibility of study at RIST as part of their school curriculum. RIST provides the opportunity to complete a school-based apprenticeship as part of their school studies in Year 10.

Students were shown how to work successfully in the yards by Monivae parent, Scott Mullins, and also had the opportunity to work in a shearing shed. Students were introduced to digital technology in agriculture and drove a tractor simulator.  Students learnt about the importance of soil health and the possibility of pursuing studies in agronomy. To complete the taster day, students watched the autopsy of a sheep and learnt about the important role of the veterinarian in agriculture.  In all students were given a wonderful opportunity to see the many interesting career pathways in Agriculture.
