Prep | Bluegum 

This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) brought the joy of reading to classrooms across the country – and Prep Bluegum was no exception! On Wednesday, 21 May at 12:00 PM, our students joined over a million children across Australia to listen to The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel, and illustrated by Danny Snell. We were joined by our Grade 5 buddies to explore the story. 

The story follows Tinka, a resilient little cat, and her human companion Yacoub, a migrant truck driver adjusting to life in a new country. The story sparked plenty of thoughtful conversations with our buddies about travel, change, and the power of friendship.

It was a great opportunity to continue building connections with our buddies, with the older students guiding and encouraging their younger buddies. Together, we got creative with a range of activities like origami and puppet craft. We also used the book as inspiration for some awesome truck-themed art pieces, with students creating their own trucks.
