An Ode To Our Grandparents

Whether we call them ‘Pa’, ‘Granny’, ‘Opa’, ‘Nonna’, or ‘Poppy’ to name just a few, grandparents play an important and treasured role in our lives. Not only are they our unofficial co-conspirators for a later bedtime, for a treat for doing nothing in particular, or for offering dessert before vegetables…they are also our fonts of wisdom and self-appointed historians. They remind us of days gone by, and take us on journeys into their lives that may seem whimsical rambles, but which have indirectly shaped all that we do and, and who we are, today. Whilst there may be mischief mixed with ‘the good old days’, the support and unconditional love shown by our grandparents is impossible to deny.

We have equally shared a little of our ‘what happens in our days’,  enjoying the pleasure of their company at “Grandparents’ Day” this week. We revealed a snapshot of our day to day activities at school, and created the opportunity to involve them in some classroom pursuits such as artistic endeavours, the making of origami creations and story writing - just to name a few.

Much chatter then followed at a delightful morning tea, where anecdotes were many, and pride for their respective grandchildren was in abundance. It was an absolute privilege to be able to again invite them to join in our day, after a four year hiatus. With many stories told, and memories unravelled, the day was another opportunity for our community of students and grandparents to come together and create new memories.
