College/Year Level Captains' Report

Last week, students made their way back to school after a well-earned Term 2 holiday break. To kick things off, we had an assembly to discuss upcoming events, as well as to congratulate Haeley Heng and Chloe Chao on receiving their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s awards. A mini concert was also performed, courtesy of the VCE Music group who played Fleetwood Mac's "I Don't Want to Know." Furthermore, we looked back at the activities completed by various year levels leading up to the holidays.

During the last week of term, exciting events unfolded for both the Year 9's and 10's, with the Year 10's going out into the world and participating in their own Work Experience, and the Year 9’s getting the choice of three unique "adventures" for their camps, including the Reef-to-Rainforest trip, the Great Ocean Road Hike and the Urban Expeditions. The Reef-to-Rainforest camp took the students to Cairns in Far North Queensland, where they, as the name implies, got to explore the Daintree Rainforest and snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef. In the Great Ocean Road Hike, students challenged themselves by trekking along the Great Ocean Road path, where they camped, cooked their own food and hiked through beautiful scenery. Finally, the Urban Expeditions camp took the students on daily trips into the city to join in on activities including rock climbing, a virtual reality experience and visiting ACMI. We also welcomed back the group of Year 10’s and 11’s who went on a trip to Japan to visit our sister school as exchange students. While in Japan, they got to experience all that the wonderful country has to offer, immersing themselves in the strong culture that surrounds it.

Some other announcements during the assembly included the upcoming Pyjama Day, Footy Colours Day, the Beauy Bake off (which is raising money for Challenge, a charity supporting children with cancer) and Connor's Run (an event aimed to raise money for kids with brain cancer). The school's Climate Action Group also came up to the podium to talk about their plans to help make the school cleaner and greener.
