Y9 Camps & Urban Expeditions Week
Reef-to-Rainforest
In the last week of term, we had the pleasure of going to Far North Queensland on the Reef-to-Rainforest camp. We went to the Daintree Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef and an outback cattle station as well as majority of time in our hotels in Cairns. The teachers at camp with us were Mr Huges, Ms Chaves, Mr Kehoe, Ms Saunders, Mr Mac and we had the joy of having Lynda and Nel with us. We had the opportunity to learn about our country and Indigenous heritage while having fun with our friends. And at the end, Jetstar lost half our luggage!

Great Ocean Road Hike
We chose the Great Ocean Road Hike for our Year 9 camp. Throughout this experience, we were tested physically and mentally, and taken out of our comfort zones along this hike.
During this camp, we walked along beaches, saw beautiful sunsets and encountered river crossings. We slept in tents and made and carried our own food. We had to carry all our belongings on our backs, so we had to think carefully about what we were taking. Overall, this was an incredible experience and I would recommend it to the next Year 9's.

Urban Expeditions Week
During week 11 of Term 2, we participated in the Urban Expedition - a full five days of travelling around the city, seeing new sights and exploring. We visited Monopoly Dreams, an attraction that immersed us in the world of Monopoly, providing a bunch of fun games and activities themed around the board game. We also visited ACMI, a museum all about media such as television, movies and video games. There, we got to see the history of film techniques, the technology involved, and the various styles that have emerged.

One of my favourite activities during the Urban Expedition camp was the 'VR Escape Room'. Our group chose to play as plague doctors, tasked with investigating the manor of a mad scientist and his creations. We traversed four rooms filled with puzzles, traps and horrors of unnatural origin. Similarly, though slightly less menacing and virtual, we participated in the 'Amazing Race', a treasure hunt through the city. It had us following clues to find locations and codes, and at the end, we were rewarded with fun facts about Melbourne. Overall, I found the Urban Expedition a lot of fun and would recommend it to our next Year 9 students.

During the Urban Expedition camp, we participated in a range of fun and engaging activities each day. The most notable ones for me were the indoor rock climbing and the city tour. On the city tour, we explored a bunch of different alleyways and cool places around the city while learning about Melbourne and Australia. These two activities stood out to me because the city tour was both fun and engaging, introducing us to the heart of Melbourne and its creative and unique aspects. The rock climbing was a fun physical challenge, and I am happy to say I was able to scale the 10+ metre wall twice. Overall, the Urban Expedition week was a great experience for everyone.
