Year 9 News

Welcome back!

It is hard to believe that we are now well and truly into the second half of the year. It was great to see so many students return in full school uniform, with smiles on their faces ready to take on Semester 2!

As always, each term is busy with lots of things happening around the school. Please note the below dates to pop into your diaries:

  • Wednesday 29th July - Subject Selection Day (7-11)

  • Thursday 6th August - Goolum Goolum Pathways Expo 2026

  • Thursday 13th August - Year 9 Girls in STEM

  • Wednesday 19th - Friday 21st August - Year 9 Camp (Melbourne)

  • Thursday 20th & Friday 21st - School Production (Frozen)

  • Wednesday September 16th - Parent Teacher Interviews

Year 9 Camp

There are still limited spaces available for students keen to attend the Year 9 Camp to Melbourne CBD between 19th - 21st August.

The focus of Year 9 camp is FUN, and developing life skills! Students will be completing a city scavenger hunt ( like the Amazing race), learning about homelessness at Big Issue Classroom, shopping at DFO, exploring the city laneways, swimming at MSAC wave pool and attending a private screening of a movie just for us!

Camp deposits of $150 are now due, and can be paid to the administration office via the QKR! App. Total camp balance of $615 will be payable by 31 July. Families eligible for Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) are encouraged to make use of this if your child wishes to attend camp. If you are unsure if you have CSEF funds available, please contact Kate Gardner in the Year 9 office, or phone the administration office on 5381 7100, and they will be happy to assist you.

Year 9 Achievements

We would like to congratulate Hylton Penfold, who was selected in the World Team Program for AFL Victoria. The World Team and the Flying Boomerangs programs met on the Gold Coast last week and played in two talent showcase games.

The Flying Boomerangs features U15 boys who are from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, whilst the World Team features U15 boys from culturally diverse backgrounds, many who meet the AFL Next Generation Academy criteria.

We would also like to recognise the talent of Hunter King, who recently appeared in the premier of Goolum Goolum’s ‘Bunjil’s View Part 3 - Unfinished Business’. The film honours the enduring cultural knowledge, connection to Country, and storytelling traditions of the Wotjobaluk Peoples, whose Dreaming continues to guide and strengthen future generations.

Year 9 Form Group Teachers are responsible for the pastoral care of our students. Part of this role includes following up student absences. If your child has been absent, their form group teacher will be in contact via phone or SEQTA direct message to resolve the absence. We aim for 0% unresolved absences each term! It is a great help to form group teachers if families can notify the college of absences via the absence hotline on 5381 7200 or via the QKR! App. Thank you for your help in assisting us to achieve 0% unresolved absences in Year 9.
