Year 8 Greater Wester Region Netball

The Year 8 girls represented Horsham College with pride at the Greater Western Region Netball competition held at the Ballarat Netball Association on the 24th of June. Competing in Pool A, the team displayed excellent teamwork, determination and skill throughout the day. The girls performed strongly across all three of their pool matches, winning each game and securing their place in the grand final.

In the grand final, the team faced a strong Emmanuel College side in what proved to be a challenging and highly competitive match. Despite giving their all and fighting hard until the final whistle, the girls were unable to come away with the win. Reaching the grand final was a fantastic achievement and the team should be incredibly proud of their efforts, sportsmanship and the way they represented Horsham College throughout the day.

Year 7 Boys Greater Western Football

Our Horsham College Year 7 Boys Football team travelled to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region Finals after earning their place through the Black Ranges competition.

The boys faced a strong field of opposition throughout the day and began their campaign with an impressive 22-6 victory over Ballarat High School. They then came up against the eventual tournament winners, Trinity College, who proved too strong despite a determined effort from the Horsham boys.

After lunch, the team responded in outstanding fashion with a dominant 54-1 win over Mercy Regional College, displaying excellent teamwork, pressure around the contest and efficient ball movement. Their final match was against a highly talented Emmanuel College outfit, who went on to finish runners-up, with Horsham unable to get on the scoreboard.

The team finished the tournament with two wins and two losses to place third overall, narrowly missing a finals berth. While their Greater Western Region journey came to an end, the boys should be extremely proud of the way they represented Horsham College, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day.

Congratulations to all players on a fantastic campaign and an excellent season representing Horsham College football.

Year 8 Boys Greater Western Football

The Horsham College Year 8 boys football team travelled to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region Finals against some of the strongest schools in western Victoria.

The boys showed great determination throughout the day, taking on quality opposition from Ballarat High School, Trinity College, Mercy Regional College and Emmanuel College. After a tough start against Ballarat High School and Trinity College, the team responded brilliantly with a convincing 27–13 victory over Mercy Regional College before finishing the day on a high with an outstanding 51–6 win over Emmanuel College.

While the results weren't enough to progress to the next stage, the team displayed terrific resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the carnival. The boys represented Horsham College with pride and should be congratulated on their efforts and the way they supported one another across the day.

A big congratulations to all players on a fantastic achievement in reaching the Greater Western Region Finals and representing the College so well.

Black Ranges Intermediate Girls Basketball

On Thursday 16th July we took two teams of Intermediate Girls to the Horsham Basketball Stadium to compete in the Black Range Basketball competition, against two Marian, two Wimmera Lutheran teams and Warracknabeal.

Congratulation to our HC 1 team on winning the day.  The girls won all three of their pool games and the final against WLC 1to finish off a great day of basketball.

Our HC 2 played in Pool B against WLC 1 and Marian 1, their games were extended to 20-minute halves due to having one less team in the pool, the girls lost their first game against WLC 1 and won their 2nd against Marian 1, great effort girls  

Well done to all girls on your day of basketball, you all represented Horsham College with amazing sportsmanship throughout the day and many laughs were shared, good luck to the team who will now compete at the Greater Western Regions Competition in Ballarat on Thursday 13th August.

Senior Black Ranges Basketball

On Tuesday, our three senior boys’ basketball teams travelled to Ararat to compete against schools from across the district in the Black Ranges Basketball Competition.

All three teams enjoyed plenty of success throughout the day, producing some impressive passages of play. The boys displayed strong defence, slick ball movement and excellent teamwork across all their matches.

Just as pleasing was the outstanding sportsmanship shown by every player. The boys represented Horsham College with pride, showing great respect towards their teammates, opponents and officials.

Our A team capped off a fantastic day by winning the competition and progressing to the Greater Western Region finals on 13 August. Congratulations to all players involved, and good luck to the A team at the next stage!

On the same day, our senior girls’ basketball team also travelled to Ararat and came agonisingly close to progressing to the next stage.

The girls produced some excellent basketball throughout the competition, showing strong teamwork, determination and outstanding sportsmanship. Despite a terrific effort, they narrowly missed out on advancing to the Greater Western Region finals on percentage.

Although the result didn’t fall their way, the girls should be extremely proud of how they played and represented Horsham College.

Intermediate Black Ranges Basketball

Horsham College enjoyed a fantastic day on the basketball court, competing against schools from across the region, including Wimmera Lutheran College, St Brigid’s College, Ararat, Marian College, Warracknabeal and Edenhope. With games coming thick and fast, students had plenty of opportunities to test their skills against some strong opposition.

All three Horsham College teams enjoyed success throughout the competition, producing some impressive basketball and improving as the day progressed. Their teamwork, defensive pressure and willingness to work for one another were highlights, while all students represented the College with excellent sportsmanship.

One Horsham College team progressed to the final against Marian College, with the match going right down to the wire. Horsham College held its nerve in the closing moments to secure a thrilling one-point victory and take out the day. The team will now represent Horsham College at the Greater Western Region competition in Ballarat next month. Congratulations and good luck!
