NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
27TH MAY – 3RD JUNE, 2025
At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.
This year’s theme is “Bridging Now to Next.
It calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
The artwork featured is by Kalkadoon woman, Bree Buttenshaw. She brings the traditional designs of indigenous artwork to life using digital techniques. It celebrates the resilience of Australia’s native flora, featuring Lemon Myrtle, Banksia, Gum Leaves, Desert Lime and Kangaroo Paw, renowned for their ability to endure harsh conditions, regenerate after fire, and flourish through adversity. Vibrant patterns symbolising journeys and tracks reflect resilience, connection, and progress, serving as a reminder of our deep ties to Country and the paths paved by those before us.
This week, the students have been involved in an art activity, featuring this design. Check out our display in the administration area!

Mercy Awards
On Monday during assembly, the recipients for the Mercy Value of ‘Hardworker’ will be presented.
Our next Mercy Value is ‘Acceptance’.
The Mercy Sisters showed acceptance to others by showing dignity of the human person. They did this by taking care of the sick, offering refuge for women and children, and the poor and homeless. Through their service to the community, the Sisters of Mercy worked in solidarity to live out the values Catherine McAuley exemplified. They worked with and supported those that others did not see, and accepted all.
Some ways we can show acceptance here at St Joseph's are:
- acknowledging others’ feelings
- engaging in acts of kindness
- celebrating difference
- resolving conflicts peacefully
- accepting others’ boundaries
- treat others respectfully
