Term 2 Week 10
Earlier this term, I introduced our new library system, Access-It, and I’m excited to let you know that our library website is now live and ready for families to explore from home!
Students and parents can now search our school library catalogue on their own devices. Whether you're looking for a particular title, a favourite author, or just browsing for something new, our library website makes it easy to see what's available.
I’ve also put together a Tirkandi Library Search Guide below to support you as you get started. It includes advice on how to search, filter results, and navigate the website.
Please let me know if you have any questions - I’m always happy to help!
Did you know that parents/caregivers can also borrow books from our school library? If you're interested, simply come and see me or send me an email, and I’ll create a parent library account for you.
Once your account is set up, you’ll be able to borrow up to 10 books at a time. This can be especially helpful during school holiday periods, when you might be looking for extra reading material to keep your children engaged, entertained, and off screens!
Just a quick reminder of how borrowing works in the library:
Reception - Can borrow 4 books
Years 1, 2, 3, 4 - Can borrow 8 books
Years 5 and 6 - Can borrow 10 books
Parents/Caregivers - Can borrow 10 books
Please remember to bring your library bag (Reception and Year 1/2), and return any overdue books to start borrowing again. Books can be kept for up to 2 weeks. If you’ve forgotten to return a book, don’t worry – just drop it in the returns box when you get the chance!
Students can return books by placing them in their classroom library box or directly into the green returns box in Tirkandi. Please note that only staff members are allowed to return books and use the returns computer. If a book is returned damaged, please place it in the Book Doctor box for repairs.
Library computer borrowing is available only for students in Years 3 to 6. The borrowing period runs from 8:40am to 8:50am. Computers can be borrowed by those who have either damaged their own computers or forgotten to bring them to school.
When you borrow a computer, we will record your name, class, and the computer's barcode. Each student must borrow a computer under their own name.
Please remember that all borrowed computers must be returned to the library by the end of the day. If a student forgets to return their computer three times, they will be unable to borrow for three days. Should this happen again, the borrowing restriction period will be extended.
Please note that these computers are secondhand, so they may be slower or have keys that are a bit tricky to use. If you notice any other damages, please inform your teachers, IT staff, or me directly.
The school library policy regarding overdue, lost, or damaged books is as follows:
If a library book lost or returned damaged, a fee of $15 will be charged. If the book is found you will be reimbursed the full amount.
Please note that students will not be able to borrow any additional books until the overdue book is returned or the payment is made. The fees collected are used to replace the lost or damaged book.
Our library is now open Monday to Friday for families to come in, borrow books, or enjoy some quiet reading time:
Monday to Friday:
Before school: 8:30–8:50am
After school: 3:10–3:30pm
Happy reading!
