What's On In PE

In preparation for the upcoming Junior School Athletics Carnival the F-2 students have been working enthusiastically in their PE sessions to develop their throwing, jumping and running skills. Through targeted activities they are improving their strength, coordination and overall fitness. These sessions also encourage personal growth as students show perseverance and celebrate achieving their personal best.
The junior school students have also been enjoying learning a new game called Castle Ball. Students build a castle using hoola hoops and explore different positions such as defending and attacking. Students are developing their understanding of how position and teamwork contribute to success in a team game situation as well as individual skills such as spatial awareness, decision making and working collaboratively with their peers.
In this term’s PE sessions, our senior school students showcased great creativity and team work by designing their very own games! Working in small groups, they combined ideas from sports they already know such as football, tennis and volleyball to invent brand new activities with unique scoring systems and fair rules. Each team had to think carefully about how to make their game inclusive and fun for players of all ages and abilities. Throughout the process students developed teamwork skills including communication, problem solving and leadership as they collaborated to plan, test and refine their ideas. It was wonderful to see so much creative cooperation and enthusiasm for trying something new!
