What's On In 1/2

Swimming

This term the Grade 1 and 2 attended the swimming programme. The students showed great confidence in the water.  We were so impressed with the independence they demonstrated as they organised their swimming attire. Their behaviour was outstanding and noticed by both the bus driver and the instructors at the pool. It was a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved!

Transition

We have begun our preparations for next year, and the students are already spending time in their upcoming year levels. This is aimed at supporting the students so as to reduce any anxiety that they may be feeling. They are exploring their new classroom environments, getting to know new people, and reconnecting with friends from previous years. During each transition the students are mixed with different children.  It has been a positive and exciting transition, filled with curiosity, confidence, and warm friendships.

Literacy

In literacy, the 1/2 cohort has been busy crafting and presenting speeches for the upcoming Public Speaking Competition. Working with the prompt “If I could be any animal…”, students planned, drafted and practised their speeches before presenting them to their class. Every student proudly had the chance to share their speech, and a selection of shortlisted speakers were then chosen to present to the entire cohort. The speeches were wonderfully creative, funny and engaging, and it was such a joy to see students growing in confidence, using strong, clear voices and expressing their ideas with so much enthusiasm.

What our students wrote…

Migo

Have you ever wondered what you would feel like to be a dog?  Hi I am Migo and I’m here to explain why.

Firstly they have floppy ears and waggy tails that wag when I make people happy.

Annalise

If I got to be any animal I would be a… cheetah so I can zoom through the forest! Did you know that cheetahs can run 120km/h? Wow! That’s one fast animal. Wouldn’t you like to win every race?

Eva

If I could be any animal, I would be a dog. Woof! Dogs are the best! Firstly, being a puppy is so much fun because when you are a puppy you get to stick your head out of the car window. No seat belts! No work, yes play, like fetch and run, run, run!

Heidi

Enough of kid life! People always saying no! No candy! No, stay here near me. Too short for everything. Can’t ride this, can’t ride that. Enough! Kid life is the worst if they can’t have fun, don't you think? This is why if I could be any animal, I would be a dog!

Isabella

The lyrebird is the best animal to be because of its emotive sounds. The lyrebird can trick the audience of animals. Imagine me not being the fastest, or the silliest, but the smartest of them all! I could outsmart people to do what I want.

Zen

If I could be any animal, I’d obviously be an eagle. Sleeping under the stars every night would be astonishing. I have lots of reasons, but I will only spit out 3: vision, flying and fastness. Firstly, eagles have 100% the best vision ever. They can see up to 6.5km. With these sharp eagle eyes, I won’t miss any little detail.

Poppy

Hello folks, I would like to tell you that if I could choose to be any animal… hear that, any! It would be a penguin and this is why. Penguins are so cute. Why? They have heads that have big black eyes. They have a big blanket of charcoal over half their body. Then they look like a picture from the olden days. Aww!

Sabrina

Another point to consider is that birds are fearless creatures. Take migration for example. Their journey is perilous and long but they still choose to go on a far and dangerous journey. We can therefore see that birds have no fear.

Tiffany

It is crystal clear that jellyfish are terrific because they protect themselves from predators by using their stingy legs. For example, when an octopus is trying to eat the jellyfish, what would the jellyfish do? Protect itself by using their stingers. This explains why jellyfish are the best.
