Grade One

General: Our Grade 1 students have returned with great enthusiasm and have settled back into classroom routines beautifully. Earlier this term, we came together as a school community to honour ANZAC Day with a thoughtful and respectful ceremony. Students participated in meaningful learning experiences that helped deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, remembrance and shared values.

In the lead-up to Mother’s Day, classrooms were filled with excitement as students prepared heartfelt celebrations for their mums and special loved ones. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Oatlands’ second Mother’s Day Morning Tea. It was lovely to see so many happy faces and special moments shared across the morning.

We also acknowledge a staffing change in Grade 1, farewelling Kirsten Trewarn and warmly welcoming Sarah Birthisel to the team.

Students enjoyed taking part in National Simultaneous Storytime, sharing Luna Roo The Kangaroo Baller. It was wonderful to see the excitement around our themed day, with many students proudly wearing their jerseys to school. We enjoyed watching the Teachers vs Students soccer match before assembly Friday afternoon.

English: This term, Grade 1 students have been working hard to develop their writing skills, with a focus on understanding the purpose and structure of information reports. They have impressed their teachers with the interesting facts they have discovered about different animals and have been building their understanding of the difference between facts and opinions. As the term continues, students will explore a range of factual texts during reading sessions to support them in planning and writing their own information reports.

Mathematics: Grade 1 students have continued to demonstrate excellent effort and perseverance in Mathematics this term. Using a variety of hands-on materials, students have been exploring topics such as data, time, shape and money. They have been investigating how these mathematical concepts connect to everyday life in the classroom and around the school, making their learning both meaningful and engaging.

Integrated Studies & RRRR: In Integrated Studies, Grade 1 students have been exploring the concept of Change, learning about how things change over time and observing growth in the world around them. In RRRR, students have been learning strategies to manage emotions, stay calm and approach challenges with a positive mindset. We are proud of the way our Grade 1 students have continued to grow in their learning, confidence and connections with others this term.
