Prep
It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 2! Our Prep students are all now very familiar with school life and are coming along in leaps and bounds. We are so proud of the incredible growth we are seeing, both academically and socially. From developing early reading and writing skills to building friendships and learning how to work and play together, it has been a joy to witness their progress.
Here’s a rundown of what we have been learning:
In Literacy, we have been working sequentially through our Phonics Plus Program. Recently, the Prep teachers had the opportunity to observe Prep classes at Berwick Lodge Primary School, where the program has been implemented for more than a year. As one of the first schools to adopt the program, their experience provided valuable insight into its successful delivery ahead of its implementation across all Victorian classrooms. It was wonderful to see the program in action and reassuring to confirm that we are on the right track with our daily phonics instruction.
We are seeing great results from our Phonics Plus Program
In Numeracy, we have been exploring addition and subtraction, and using these skills to participate in Maths Problem Solving. Our Prep students have been exposed to problem solving strategies including Make a Model and Draw a Diagram. These strategies will encourage students to develop lifelong mathematician skills.
Our Integrated focus this term is community, which has allowed the Prep students to get to know important members of our School Community and identify ways they can help us. As part of this focus, students went on a walking tour of the school to identify where they can find our helpful community members, such as our fantastic leadership team, the wonderful Jodie in the kitchen and the generous office staff.
It has already been a busy term with some special events taking place. Our Preppies loved welcoming all the mums into our classrooms for a special activity. It was a lovely way to celebrate our Mums and to say thank you for everything they do for us.
Our Mother’s Day Morning
The Preps also got to experience National Simultaneous Storytime for the first time. They loved being part of this nationwide event that celebrates the joy of reading. It was a wonderful way to share a love of stories with the rest of the country!
