Prep/1 News

As we come to the end of a busy and productive Term 2, I would like to congratulate all students on their hard work and achievements. It has been wonderful to see the growth and progress each student has made throughout the term, both academically and socially. Thank you to all families who attended our Parent-Teacher Interviews; I hope you found them valuable and enjoyed celebrating your child's learning journey. I wish all of our families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term of learning in Term 3.

Sounds Write - Alphabet Celebration
We celebrated learning all the letters of the alphabet with our 'Milo's Birthday Surprise' Party! Students dressed up to represent a letter of the alphabet: Eliza: W - Wonder Woman,
Isobel U: Unicorn, Saskia: M - Malaysian girl, Emmett : F - Firefighter, Harrison: N - Ninja warrior, Milly: E - Elicorn, Onslow: D - Draco Malfoy, Logan: P - Pikachu. It was a really fun day!
In our writing lessons, students have focused on writing their own sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops correctly. They have also been learning to place their letters correctly on dotted thirds. Great work Super Stars!
Fairy Tales
In the classroom, we have continued to explore a variety of Fairy Tales. Students engaged with the texts 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'Goldilocks and the 3 Bears', 'The 3 Little Pigs' and 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff'. We continued to explore the characters, settings, events, problems and solutions of each story. We also further analysed the story elements, character traits and actions. We used a venn diagram to compare the similarities and differences of the texts.
Digger Digs Down
In the picture story 'Digger Digs Down' students observed how words on the page physically move or shape to show a character's actions. They discussed how the layout of words matched Digger the dog's movements and described directional changes. Students also focused on 'Onomatopoeia' - identifying sound words and understanding how they make writing more engaging and vivid.
National Simultaneous Storytime - Luna Roo
As part ofNational Simultaneous Storytime, we were delighted to welcome local librarian Celeste to our school. Celeste shared the story Luna Roo and taught students a range of Auslan signs that matched the characters and animals in the book. Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the interactive session and creating their own paper roll kangaroo craft to accompany the story. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading, creativity and communication.
Mathematics: Data
In recent Mathematics lessons, students have been learning how to collect, record and interpret data. Our focus question was, “What is your favourite outdoor play activity?” Students surveyed their classmates and recorded responses for activities including the monkey bars, ninja course, sandpit, courtyard area, junior playground and playing 'tag'. We then created a bar graph to display our results and discussed which activities were the most and least popular. The monkey bars were the clear favourite, while the ninja course received the fewest votes. Students also enjoyed collecting and graphing data about their favourite fruits and the pets they have at home, helping them develop their understanding of data in a fun and meaningful way.
See you in Term 3!!
