Year 2

As we reach the end of another busy and successful term, we would like to congratulate all of our Year 2 students on their hard work and enthusiasm for learning. It has been wonderful to see the growth they have shown across all learning areas, as well as the kindness, resilience and respect they demonstrate each day. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break, spends time with family and friends, and returns next term refreshed and ready for more exciting learning adventures.

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have explored the power of imagery through the engaging picture book Chalk Boy. Students learned how authors and illustrators use descriptive language and visual images to help readers create pictures in their minds. We discussed how imagery can make stories more vivid and meaningful, and students practised using their own imagination to visualise scenes and characters. Inspired by the story, students created their own descriptive writing and artwork, demonstrating a wonderful understanding of how words and images work together to bring stories to life.

Maths:

In Mathematics this term, our focus has been on developing fluency with number skills and building confidence when applying a range of strategies. Students have worked hard to improve their accuracy and efficiency with counting, number facts and problem-solving tasks. We have also explored how to gather, collate and organise data before representing it in pictographs and bar graphs. Students enjoyed conducting surveys, collecting information from their classmates and using their data displays to answer questions and make observations.

National Simultaneous Storytime - Luna Roo

This term, our Year 2 students enjoyed participating in National Simultaneous Storytime, joining children across Australia to share the same story at the same time. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading and the power of storytelling. We were also fortunate to welcome a local librarian, who led an engaging craft activity connected to the story. Students thoroughly enjoyed getting creative and extending their understanding of the book through hands-on learning. It was a fantastic experience that fostered a love of reading, imagination and creativity.
