Captain's Corner

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to 2026.
We are your school captains, Ashton, Atanaz, Jessica, Joey and Olive. This is our Captains Corner where we will share our thoughts and experiences across the year.
First of all, Aladdin Jr, our production for 2026 is off to a great start. Everyone who has participated has done a great job including tech crew and staff who have committed to working throughout this WHOLE production. Everyone has done an amazing job.
We have embraced our relocation days at Templestowe Heights Primary School but it shows us how much we love and appreciate our school community.
Buddies
This year the Grade 5 and 6 students got their buddies. Buddies are for the younger kids to have an older student helping with everything including helping them around the school and showing them how to behave. The buddies also have activities that they all do together like cut and paste, drawing and lots of other things. The Grade 5 students are paired with a Grade 1 and the Grade 6 students are paired with a prep. Coming to primary school for the first time is a big step up and it can be frightening so we are here for them.
Classroom
Behind the big events like swimming, drama (Aladdin Jr), buddies and Interschool Sports, classwork is a crucial role at ACPS.
In Grade 5 and 6 we do subjects English(Writing and Reading), Maths and Inquiry. In English we are reading ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman. It's an engaging story about a family that is fleeing from Afghanistan to Australia. It's great we get to read such a powerful book about their treacherous journey as refugees.
Then in Writing we are writing our own version of Boy Overboard. I personally love getting to merge Morris Gleitzman’s writing and my writing to make a story.
In maths we’re working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. It can be challenging sometimes but we all work hard to try our best. And sure enough, slowly but surely, we are getting it!
Inquiry evolves researching about a certain topic usually in a group. This term we are focusing on migration, linking back to Boy Overboard.
Sports
In grade 5/6 we have many sports opportunities, like Interschool Sports, Swimming Carnivals, Athletics, Cross Country and advancing to district and division and so on. But our junior school also gets to participate in swimming carnivals from grade 3. It is always a fantastic way to start the school year at Aquarena, compete in our events, free swim and of course use the water slides! We proudly represent our house teams to continue to show our school spirit. We have Diggers (red house), Miners (yellow house), Crushers (green house) and Panners (blue house). We really love sport here at Andersons Creek Primary School and we can’t wait for the rest of the year.
Specialists
A highlight of our weeks are our specialists. In Performing Arts we are making paper puppets in groups. This has been a fun way to work in a team and create personalities out of paper. PE has been a focus on Netball, which our community love. Everyone has been giving it a go. In ART we have also made wire people, creating winter Olympians in support of our Aussies. Our teachers for specialists are always so fun and engaging just like all our teachers here.
We can’t wait for the year ahead and lead ACPS and continue to grow our community.
Stay tuned for more - Ashton, Atanaz, Jessica, Joey and Olive
