🎨 Art Room News
First and foremost.....
A heartfelt thank you to Brad Byrnes (Clever Commercial Interiors), dad of Darcy in Grade 3, for generously providing and installing brand new cupboards and shelves around the sink area in the Art Room. The space was desperately in need of renovation, and we are so grateful for the beautiful light pine cabinetry that has given it a fresh new look.
Everything can now be neatly stored, with the shelves perfectly holding our paints and painting equipment. The students and I use this space regularly and truly appreciate the organisation and care that has gone into improving our Art Room. Thank you, Brad and team, for your time, skill and generosity! It looks absolutely amazing and is very much appreciated by myself and all the students. Thank you!

It has been a great and creative start to the year in the Art Room, with students across all year levels exploring self-portraits and Winter Olympic themes.
Prep – Self Portraits
Our Prep students have been learning to draw self-portraits by observing their body proportions. We stood up and observed how far down our legs our hands reached and where half way was on our bodies. On their page, students drew themselves and added detail such as patterns on their clothing, hair styles and any other special features. They used food dye to paint the background around their self-portrait. They have begun their next art piece of painting seahorses.

Grade 1 & 2 – Winter Olympic Self-Portraits
Students in Grades 1 and 2 created 2D self-portrait artworks of themselves competing at the Winter Olympics on skis or snowboards. They explored action, movement and background details to bring their snowy sporting scenes to life. Students have now begun their next artwork piece – modelling a self-portrait of their face from plasticine.

Grade 3 & 4 – Winter Olympic Figures & 3D Collage Faces
Our Grade 3 and 4 students constructed 3D Winter Olympic skiers and snowboarders using pipe cleaners, pegs and paddle pop sticks. They had fun adding details such as a scarf or a pompom on their beanie. They also created expressive 3D collage self-portraits, layering paper to add texture and dimension to their faces.

Grade 5 & 6 – Vintage Self-Portraits & Wire Sculptures
Students in Grades 5 and 6 designed self-portraits on vintage text paper, experimenting with tone and line. They have also begun creating wire models of Winter Olympians, developing their skills in sculpture, structure and form.

It has been wonderful to see students building confidence, creativity and resilience through their art-making. I look forward to sharing more of their inspiring work next month!
Warm regards,
