Principal's Report

A Great Start to 2026
There is a real sense of momentum and optimism across Andersons Creek Primary School, and I am really proud of the way our students, staff and families have begun the year together.
As a staff, we commenced the year with two dedicated staff professional learning days. These were incredibly purposeful days where we launched our 2026 goals and priorities. As a school, we are continuing our strong focus on literacy, numeracy and student engagement. These are not just broad headings on a document — they shape the daily work in our classrooms, the professional conversations our teachers are having, and the way we support every child to grow.
Since then, our students and teachers have settled exceptionally well into their learning programs, both in their general classrooms and specialist subjects. One of the true highlights of being a Principal is engaging with the kids, heaing all of their stories, listenting to their proud moments and seeing them grow. The start of a new year has lots of this and I have loved hearing about camping trips, beach days and family adventures. I’ve also really enjoyed getting out into PE sessions and being active alongside the students — it’s one of the best ways to see their confidence and personalities shine.
To our returning families — welcome back. To those who are new to Andersons Creek this year — a very warm welcome to you and it has been great chatting at pick up and drop off getting to know you all better. Starting school (or at a new school) can feel daunting, but I have already seen the kindness and inclusivity out in the yard that makes our community so special. Our students have done a wonderful job of welcoming new classmates, and that says a great deal about the great character and sense of communiy that underpins our school.
We have also had to manage several temporary relocations due to Extreme Fire Days. I know these changes can feel unsettling and inconvenient for families. I want to sincerely thank you for your flexibility and support. What stood out to me most was how calmly and positively everyone responded. We achieved strong learning continuity on those days, with a large number of students in attendance and fully engaged. It was another reminder of the resilience within our community.
Our showcase event so far has been our Grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival which was a fantastic day and one of my favourites every year. I always love this event because it captures so much of what school life should be — challenge, fun, encouragement and house spirit. Watching students push themselves in the pool with most competing in EVERY EVENT, cheer loudly for their teammates and then enjoy time together on the waterslides or playing in the pool was just so nice to be a part of. I was particularly proud of the way students supported one another regardless of results. This is something our ACPS kids always do well and are just so happy for the achievement of others. Congratulations to those who have progressed through to District and now Division level — we are cheering you on.
Rehearsals for Aladdin are now well underway, and there is a real buzz (and rather large set) building. I am really looking forward to our first sneak peek performance at the Warrandyte Festival. Thank you to Gavin, Mrs Bailey and the team for getting this off to a great start and for all of the behind the scenes work that goes into a production.
It has also been great to re-establish our lunch order partnerships with local businesses. We are grateful to Biddick’s Bakery and Perky Platypus for supporting our school community. Lunch orders are available on Wednesdays and Fridays via the FlexiSchools app.
Personally, I loved my summer holidays on the boat in Bonnie Doon enjoying time outside with family and friends. It was great to have a chance to wind down and refresh before another big year. I continue to feel incredibly fortunate to lead a school where community matters, students are known and valued, and where families are genuinely invested in the life of the school. Thank you for the trust you place in us each day and I am excited for what the remainder of Term 1 and 2026 will bring.
Looking Ahead
Run Warrandyte takes place this Sunday, with around 50 students currently registered to represent ACPS. I admire their willingness to challenge themselves and be active participants in our broader community.
School Photos will be held on Monday 10th March.
NAPLAN for our Grade 3 and 5 students commences on Tuesday 11th March. Our focus remains on steady preparation and supporting students to feel calm and confident.
Our Family Afternoon and Silent Disco will take place on 19th March — always a fantastic opportunity to come together socially as a community.
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday 26th March. Please note this corrects the previously published date of 24th in the Fortnightly Forecast.
The Warrandyte Festival Parade, Performance and Stall is fast approaching — I am looking forward to seeing our school proudly represented.
- We will finish the term with our Colour Run and Harmony Day celebrations on the final day — a joyful and vibrant way to conclude what has been a strong start to the year.
