Foundation News

It was another busy and exciting fortnight in Foundation!

A big thank you to all our families for helping the children prepare their wonderful Book Week costumes. We really appreciated the time and effort that went into bringing their favourite book characters to life. The children loved sharing their costumes, talking about their favourite books and celebrating Book Week with their friends.

In Mathematics, we continued learning about sharing equally. The children explored how to share collections fairly between groups and worked out what happened when there were some objects left over. We used lots of hands-on activities and played sharing games to help us understand how to make equal groups. The children enjoyed working together and explaining how they knew that each group had been shared fairly.

In Literacy, we continued developing our reading and writing skills. We practised reading and writing simple sentences, focusing on using a capital letter at the beginning, spaces between words and a full stop at the end. We also practised reading our sentences back to ourselves and checking that they made sense. The children were introduced to recounts and learnt how to share events in the correct order. They planned and wrote their own recounts, using their sentence-writing skills to share something that had happened to them.

We have also enjoyed reading Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin. On Friday, the children had fun writing about what their own cow would like and then creating their cows using craft materials. It was lovely to see the different ideas they came up with!

It has been wonderful to see the children working hard and enjoying their learning. Thank you for your continued support at home — it makes such a difference!
