Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

As we race towards the end of the term, we are afforded the opportunity to take a deep breath and take a moment to reflect. Term 1 has been a flurry of events, from first days at school, to sport trials (both summer and winter) carnivals and external trials. The fact that we have all not only survived but thrived this term is testament to the boys’ perseverance and resilience. A big thank you to our staff and coaches for all your work with the boys. Your efforts and professionalism have not gone unnoticed. To all our parents/carers, thank you for your unwavering support and for advocating for your sons. The countless hours driving across Sydney and to the Southern Highlands at times and making sure the boys are ready each and every Saturday are very much appreciated by all.

While most of us are resting and holidaying, we have two touring groups heading off to represent the College in winter sports this coming break. We wish all the boys involved in the Armidale Rugby Tour and the Brisbane Football Tour all the best for their competitions. Go, know that you have the support of the whole community and we look forward to hearing about your experiences. All the best of luck to you boys.

Saturday the Junior School performed its Supporters’ Day duties, and it was a great start to the winter season for the College. Spurred on by the support of Year 5, the Second XI and First XI Football teams both came away with victories. It was wonderful to see the passion and excitement of the Year 5 students as they cheered on our boys. No doubt some future First XI players were in the Year 5 group. This then led into Year 6 duty with Rugby. Again, with some great support from the Year 6 boys the Second XV and First XV both came away with victories. With strong wins across the codes, St Patrick’s College, once again, won the Black and Green Aggregate Shield.

Message from Mr Tatola, Head of Rugby

The annual Black and Green Aggregate Shield fixtures delivered a fantastic day of sport, spirit, and school pride across multiple venues, but the undeniable heart of the action was Breen Oval. From the first whistle to the final play, the atmosphere was electric, fuelled by outstanding performances on the field and an equally impressive show of support off it.

One of the standout highlights of the day was the extraordinary contribution from our Year 6 cohort, whose presence in the Scientia stands became a driving force behind the First XV’s success. Their unrelenting chanting, boundless enthusiasm, and unwavering energy created a home‑ground advantage that could be felt across the entire oval. It was a powerful reminder of how unity and school spirit elevate every moment of competition.

Thank you to all staff and students for their support, energy and contribution to what was an incredible day.

Winter Sport

With initial trials now over, all boys in Football should know the team they are in to start the term. Boys in Rugby will find out what team they have been placed in at their first training session in Term 2. We will continue the trial process over the first two weeks of the term as we lead into the first round on 2 May. From there, boys will have the first three rounds of the season to continue to develop and have opportunities to move. Please see attached the draft training schedule. Training begins the first day back in Term 2 for the boys. I have also included a draft draw. Please be aware that this is a work in progress and AFL and 12C Rugby are still to be added.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and a restful term break.
