Dancing Through Lent

The spirit of Lent has been brought vividly to life this term through the energy, enthusiasm, and unity of our Year 7 students as they participated in the Lenten Dance program last Thursday evening alongside students from neighbouring girls’ schools.

From the outset, it was evident that this evening would provide a valuable opportunity for Year 7 to step beyond their comfort zones. Meeting and collaborating with students from the nearby girls’ schools encouraged them to develop social confidence, mutual respect, and an appreciation for shared purpose. Through the simple yet powerful medium of dance, barriers quickly dissolved, replaced by laughter, encouragement, and a growing sense of belonging. These are the “little things” that matter—learning how to interact, support one another, and take part in something bigger than themselves.

Importantly, these experiences are the foundations for lifelong memories. For most of our students, this has been one of their first opportunities to represent the College in a collaborative setting, and the pride they have taken in doing so has been evident. Also, a particularly pleasing aspect of the program has been the involvement of our Year 12 student leaders. Their presence has provided reassurance and guidance, modelling leadership in its most authentic form.

This program would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of Mr Robert Simpson, Director of Senior School. His tireless efforts behind the scenes in coordinating and ensuring every detail was attended to has been instrumental in the success of the Lenten Dance initiatives - not only for the Year 7 dance, but the Year 10 dance the following night.

As a College community, we are reminded that formation happens not only in the classroom, but in moments like these—where students connect, grow, and create memories that will shape who they become.
