Grade 3

It has been a wonderful Term 3 filled with exciting learning experiences and special events. Students enjoyed participating in our ‘Symphony of Stories’ Book Week showcase. We had a great Father’s Day Morning and Grandparents’ afternoon. Thank you to all the families and special guests who joined us and helped make these events so memorable.

English

In English, our students have been enjoying a range of reading and writing activities throughout the term. During Book Week, we focused on ‘Edwina the Emu’, exploring the characters, setting and events. We have also finished reading ‘Brindabella’, with students reflecting on the characters, key events and themes throughout the text. In persuasive writing, students have been learning to identify facts and opinions, use persuasive language and create engaging introductions. They have applied these skills by writing persuasive letters and developing arguments to support their ideas.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have explored a range of concepts throughout the term. They have enjoyed using hands-on materials to name, describe and explore different 3D shapes. Students then put their learning into practice as they designed and created an enclosure for ‘Edwina the Emu’! Using 3D shape nets, they created a range of features including fences, gates, shelters, water tanks and feeding areas. We have also focused on multiplication and division, with students practising a variety of strategies. They have applied these skills to solve worded problems. Students have also been learning about time.

Integrated 

This term our unit focus has been Discovery, with students exploring the world through exciting hands-on investigations. We have been investigating different types of forces. Students have enjoyed making predictions and conducting experiments. It has been wonderful to watch their curiosity as they explored this area of science.
