Scienceworks excursion

As part of our Term 2 Inquiry and English Units, exploring the big question “What changes occur in the sky and on the land?”, our Year 2 students visited Scienceworks for an exciting and fun day out!

One of the highlights was watching the Lightning Show, where we learned all about electricity. 

"On Friday Year Two went to Scienceworks to learn more about the weather. First, we ate our delicious snacks. Then we had a play which was amazing! next we visited the sports section. My favourite activity was the wheelchair racing because I got to race Oliver. After that we explored the technology section."

"My favourite activity was the lightening show because he showed us lightening. Next we went to the lightening show in the Lightening Theatre. We watched the presenter make bottled cloud. He also showed us how air expands."

Miss Caitlin loved seeing the kids learn about the weather, but also enjoyed seeing Mr Euan and Mr Dennis experience Scienceworks for the first time!

Life cycle of a butterfly

In Year 2 this term in English we learned about the life cycle. We decided to have our own butterfly in our classroom. 

We started with some caterpillars from Miss Caitlin's garden. We fed them broccoli plants and leaves. We covered them with a green net. They formed their chrysalis on the top of the green net. 

After about three weeks, they hatched into a butterfly. We let them go outside. One did escape by itself in the classroom, but Miss Caitlin safely caught and released it outside.

The butterfly was white and had dots. We got to see the whole life cycle in our classroom!
