What's happening in the classroom

Foundation

Students have practised recognising numbers on the dice, developing their subitising skills by quickly identifying the number of dots, and working on numeral formation. It was also great to see them being cooperative Kookaburras while taking turns and playing together.

In Foundation we have also begun learning to read and write our first sounds which include /m/, /s/ and /t/. We have undertaken different activities to help us learn these sounds, including fun craft activities like making a mouse, seal and tiger.

Grade 1

In Week 7, we explored the concept of “Always Foods” and “Sometimes Foods.” As a group, students discussed different types of foods and why some foods help our bodies grow strong and healthy when we eat them regularly, while others are best enjoyed only occasionally.

Together, we sorted a range of foods into the Always Food and Sometimes Food categories. This activity encouraged students to think about healthy choices, share their ideas, and listen to the perspectives of their peers. It was wonderful to see the class engaging in thoughtful discussion and developing their understanding of balanced, healthy eating.

Grade 3

In Year 3, we started the term by learning all about narratives while reading the chapter book Matilda. Students explored the key elements of narrative writing, including characters, setting, action, problem, and solution.  To demonstrate their learning, students wrote, edited, and published their own narratives.

Grade 4

On Friday February 27th Grade 4M had the opportunity to present prayer to the school community. We enjoyed practising throughout the week and putting together a prayer that showed the connection between Autumn and Lent. We reflected on how these seasons are times of reflection and change and how it reminds us that change can help us grow at school at home and everywhere in our lives. Our words and actions every day at St Joseph's are examples of how we grow and change as a part of our school community, especially during the season of Lent.
