Principal's message

Welcome to Term 2 at Alvie Primary School.

I hope all of our families had a safe and restful holiday break. It has been wonderful to see students return to school settled, positive and ready to learn. The first week back is an important time to reconnect, re-establish routines and set the tone for the term ahead.

Across the school, we are focusing on getting back into strong learning habits. Clear routines, calm classrooms and consistent expectations help students feel confident and supported. It has been great to see how quickly students have returned to these routines.

This term, we are placing a strong focus on Mathematics across the school. Building strong number skills, confidence and fluency in Maths is a key priority. Teachers will continue to use explicit teaching, where learning is clearly explained, modelled and practised step by step. Students will be supported to build their understanding over time, with regular review and opportunities to apply their learning. You may also see students using hands-on materials and whiteboards to show their thinking and receive immediate feedback.

Alongside this, literacy intervention groups will be starting this term. These small group sessions will provide targeted support to help students strengthen their reading and writing skills and continue to make progress.

There are some exciting programs and opportunities taking place this term. All students will be participating in the Paddock to Plate program on Mondays, providing opportunities to grow, harvest and cook with seasonal produce while connecting learning to real life experiences. Our integrated learning will have a Geography focus, with younger students exploring Australia and older students expanding their understanding to other parts of the world. Friday afternoon clubs started in week 1, where students had the chance to explore new interests and develop different skills.

Works are also underway to improve our playground spaces. While there may be some temporary changes to play areas, these upgrades will provide improved facilities for our students in the future. The anticipated completion date is 29th May.

Attendance remains a key priority. A strong start to the term helps students build momentum in their learning and maintain connections with their peers. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring students attend school each day ready to learn.

We are looking forward to a positive and productive term ahead, with many opportunities for students to learn, grow and connect.

We have a Facebook page - please be sure to follow us to see the adventures that happen at Alvie!

Reminder: Student Free Day this Friday 1st May.

Warm regards
