Paddock to Plate
Mrs Bush
This first week of ‘Paddock to Plate’ has been super productive. I’ve been so impressed by the responsive grit that all of the students have shown. So inspiring! During our first two sessions we laid the foundations for our beds to ensure that the garden beds continue giving us fresh nutritional produce during our colder seasons. We companion planted herbs; basil, sage, mint (pot), oregano (pot), rosemary, parsley, spring onion, vegetables; beetroot, raspberries, spinach, brussel sprouts, as well as bee attracting plants; lavender, borage, calendula and nasturtium. All were keen to get the fingers in the dirt and prepare for the coming terms planned feasts. Students have also been busy in the kitchen, cutting figs, apples, pears, zucchinis, mushrooms and tomatoes for us to continue our cooking throughout the term. I have been so impressed with everyone’s fantastic attitude in the getting the challenges complete and finding solutions. We now have chickens settling back into their newly cleaned coup.
Biggest thank you to Alice Armistead, for caring for our chickens over the holidays and to Michael for organising seedlings and seeds to continue our production throughout the next 6 months.
I will be introducing a Paddock to Plate Certificate to Alvie Primary School. P2P champion in Week 1 of Term 2 goes to: Pearl Armistead. Pearl has been fantastic in assisting with cutting up tomatoes I have brought from home and getting the chicken coup sorted for the ladies to return.
Thank you to all for the contributions of time, effort and produce. It is so wonderful to be working with staff, students and families in such a dynamic and supportive way. It’s the BEST!
