What a term it has been so far to start off the year!

We have been busy in Performing Arts learning a lot about Rhythm, Notation and Instruments.

Level 5 & 6 have been learning how to play chords on the ukulele and how to play them as part of a song. They have been learning a range of songs, picking and choosing which one they prefer to play and learning different chords as they go. Over the next two weeks they will be performing these to the class!

Level 4 have been learning different songs on the mini keyboards. Students have been learning where to find the different notes on the keyboards and how that can turn into songs! They have been learning the Star Wars theme, Happy Birthday and Hedwig’s Theme. Students have been great at challenging themselves and using the aural skills to decipher which notes are correct.

Level 3 have been busy learning Star Wars and Seven Nation Army on the xylophones. They have been working in groups to figure out the correct octave to place the notes in order for it to sound correct. Students have been learning from each other and questioning eating other to make the songs sound correct.

The Junior Levels - Foundation to Level 2, have been learning how to play different rhythms on the percussion instruments, as well as beginning to play simple melodies on the chime bars. These are like mini xylophones with colourful keys to help students recognise the notes easier. We have also been busy singing songs about cows and alligators, as well as learning and remembering how to sing the school song and national anthem!

Our Whole School Choir is back practicing on Friday’s at lunchtimes and we are currently learning a song to perform at the Open Night/Art Show in Term 2.

We cannot wait to welcome Foundation students to join us next term!
