We are excited to introduce a regular “Learning at Our School” feature in our school newsletter. Each edition, one of our curriculum leaders will share insights into teaching and learning across the school, highlighting what students are exploring in the classroom and how we support their growth. 

Book Week – Celebrating Reading for Pleasure

What a wonderful week it has been celebrating books and reading across our school! Book Week is a lovely reminder that reading is not only something we teach, it is something we want children to enjoy.

Research shows that children who read for pleasure tend to develop stronger vocabulary, comprehension, more positive attitudes towards reading and make greater progress across a range of learning areas. Having access to a wide range of engaging books and regular opportunities to choose what they read is an important part of developing confident, enthusiastic readers.

It has been wonderful to see our students sharing their favourite books, discovering new stories and celebrating the joy of reading together. I asked some of our students why do you love reading?

“I like learning the letters.”

“The pictures are pretty.”

“I like reading with my mum because she is warm.”

“Because it is like going into another world.”

“It is a way to relax before bed.”

“Reading books can sometimes help you learn different things.”
