Week 7 Greeting
The past few weeks have certainly been particularly busy at Caulfield Primary School, with many exciting events and activities taking place across our school. Although I was unfortunately unable to attend our Book Parade, I have heard so many wonderful things about the fantastic participation and enthusiasm shown by our students, staff and families. It sounds like it was a colourful and joyful celebration of books and reading! The excitement of Book Week continues, with our Book Fair taking place next week. We look forward to seeing our students exploring the wonderful selection of books available and, hopefully, discovering some interesting new books to enjoy!
Arriving at School on Time
We have noticed that a considerable number of students are arriving late to school in the mornings. At Caulfield Primary School, we have structured morning routines in our classrooms, and being part of these routines is important in helping students settle, organise themselves and be ready for the learning that follows. Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS) and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 place a strong emphasis on predictable routines and procedures. When students know what to expect and understand how their day begins, they can use more of their cognitive capacity for important learning tasks rather than having to work out what is happening or what they need to do next. As a whole school, we are committed to maintaining consistent morning routines that support our students to learn to the best of their ability. We greatly appreciate the support of our families in helping students arrive at school on time so they can benefit from the full morning routine and begin their learning day alongside their classmates.
Year 1/2 Inquiry Unit
This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs Watts’ classroom, where our Year 1/2 students were learning about the Great Barrier Reef as part of their Inquiry Unit. The lesson began with students identifying the capital cities around Australia before turning their attention to the Great Barrier Reef. Students watched an informative video and discussed not only the unique features of this remarkable environment, but also our responsibility as visitors to help protect it. They explored ways we can respect marine creatures and their habitats, such as observing wildlife without disturbing it and ensuring that rubbish is never left near or in the water. It was wonderful to see our students developing their geographical knowledge while also thinking about the important role we all play in caring for our natural environment.
2026 Undokai
Our 2026 Undokai is just around the corner and is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 2 September! We are looking forward to welcoming our families to join us for this wonderful Japanese-style sports day and to cheer on our students as they participate in the different activities. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and enjoy the event until 11:30 am. For the safety of our students and school community, please ensure that you sign in at the designated sign-in table upon arrival. We also ask for your support in ensuring that the gate is closed behind you whenever you enter or leave the school grounds. We hope you have a fantastic time celebrating Undokai with us, and we look forward to seeing many of you there!
