Intermediate Netball

On the 30th of June Year 9 & 10 students headed down the road to Stawell to participate in the Black Range Netball, we had 3 team participate in the carnival with HC 1 and HC 3 in pool A and HC 2 in pool B.

HC 3 was a team that consisted of Year 9s, the girls had some tough competitions where they come home with 2 wins out of 4, it was a fantastic day to see the year 9s work together instead of versing each other and develop their Netball skills.

HC 2 was a team that consisted of Year 10s, winning 3 out of 5 and drew one game, these girls had a wonderful day being coached by Molly Lakin, who helped them win there pool for the day, the girls then versed Wimmera Lutheran College in a final, unfortunately the girls didn’t quite have enough puff to get them over the line. Super effort to the HC 2 team!

HC 1 was a mixed team of year 9s & 10s, these girls had an amazing day showing off their netball skill and teamwork, the girls were fortunate enough to win there pool, where they then versed Ararat in a final, the girls beat Ararat which advanced them to the grand final where they then faced Wimmera Lutheran College for a second time, it was a very intense game, as both teams went goal for goal. HC 1 team where lucky enough to come away with the win. They will succeed to the next round which is on the 10th of June.

Congratulations to all the girls in participating in the Black Range Netball.

Year 8 Boys Football

On Tuesday the 3rd of June our Year 8 Boys headed to City Oval Horsham to take on St Brigid's, Ararat and Stawell College in the Black Ranges Football Tournament. On a rather chilly day the boys started very well, showing some great skills in a comfortable win over St B's. In the second game that form continued, teamwork and hard running proving the key,  cruising to another comfortable win leaving the boys last game their opportunity to win through to the GWR region event .

The boys started very well, tricky conditions made kicking for goal tricky, however the boys adapted well and took everything in their stride, kicking goals both with and against the breeze, running out 66 point winners. The team now has the opportunity to compete in the Greater Western Region carnival on June the 25th in Ballarat!

Well Done and Good Luck.

Black Range Intermediate Football

Congratulations to our Intermediate Boys Football team on winning the Black Range AFL competition in Stawell on Friday 30th May.

The team comfortably won all four games against, St Brigid’s, Stawell SC, Marion and Wimmera Lutheran and will now look to travelling to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region competition on Tuesday the 10th of June.

A big thanks to Mr Hose for coaching and to Josh for looking after a couple of injuries for us, we wish those boys a speedy recovery.

Intermediate Boys Football

On Tuesday the 10th of May our intermediate boys football team headed to Ballarat to take on teams from Trinity College, Emmanual College and Ballarat College at the Greater Western Region Football Carnival. In what turned out to be a fantastic day for football in Ballarat the boys started a little sluggish against a quality Trinity Team.

Whilst the boys were not outplayed for the entirety of the game, trinity made the most of their opportunities taking the first game by 3 goals.

In game 2 our boys played some great football, taking it right up to our opponent's throughout the match, trailing by 8 points at the main break Emmanual kicked a quick to goals to extend the lead and make our boys work hard, and that they did, making a late run in the final quarter but running out of time falling 7 points short at the final siren.

The final game saw the boys play to their potential from the first bounce, displaying some fantastic skills and team play, whilst defending every foray forward that Ballarat attempted. Up forward scoring opportunities were a plenty with the boys coming away 46 point winners.

Well done to all boys involved in both the first and second round of the Intermediate boys year, you showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout both carnivals.

Senior Boys Football

On Tuesday 10th of June our senior boys team headed to Ballarat to take on teams from Trinity, Mortlake, Warrnambool and Ballarat Colleges. The day started with an exciting game against Trinity college ,  with Trinity missing a shot after the final siren to give Horsham the win by 2 Points.

The second game saw the boys start the game exceptionally, kicking 5 goals 2 in the first half to set up a comfortable win against Mortlake.

Game 3 saw the boys come up against a handy Warrnambool team however the boys theme of starting games well continued, kicking the first 4 goals of the game and heading into the main break 26 points ahead. Some controversial umpiring decisions in the second half added some confusion for the players, however the boys were fantastic, keeping their heads and extending their lead to come away 5 goal winners.

The final game of the day added some nervous energy to the boys performance, where winning the game meant they would progress to the next level once again. In a fantactic display of football from both teams, Ballarat hit the lead early and went into the half time break 6 points up, a super effort in the last showed huge grit and determination, with a late snap on goal confirming the comeback and win for our boys was complete!

An outstanding effort by all involved to win all games for the day and progress through to state semi final level held in August. A massive congratulations on the way you showed great sportsmanship throughout the day and displayed all college values, good luck at the next event.
