Year 5/6 Team News
with Christina, Edan, Molly, Melati, Laura & Matt
The next fortnight is a busy one! Week 3 is jam packed with learning, assessment and the beginning of our Term 4 inquiry project. And, in Week 4 we are off to camp in Anglesea!
Week 4 will see our 5's head to camp Monday whilst out Grade 6's will use the Monday and Tuesday at school to film the graduation video, choose the song to perform at graduation and begin practising for the big night!
Grade 5's will return to school for the Thursday and Friday and will work on a variety of fun learning projects.
Week 5 will be a short one, with both Monday and Wednesday of Cup Week scheduled curriculum days. A perfect opportunity for some R&R after camp!
Final reminders for CAMP:
Please arrive on the basketball court at 8:45am on the morning of your allocated departure date to ensure we are able to depart as close to 9am as possible.
Please see Christina's email sent earlier this week with all relevant packing lists and information.
What's Coming up in the Classroom in Term 4:
Reading: In Week 3, students will begin the focus on our cohort texts, The First Scientists. This was a recent text to be shortlisted by the Children's Book Council. We look forward to analysing, learning, and responding to the text using RACE- restate the question, answer the question, cite the text and explain its connection to the answer. Responding to texts in the paragraph format is a great skill to enhance both reading and writing skills.
Writing: In Week 3, students will be completing their buddy book typing. In addition to this, students will be undertaking various writing assessments across the week in narrative form.
Numeracy: In Week 3, students will continue working on consolidating the 4 operations by solving equations using BODMAS. They are also refining skills in solving for an unknown quantity using inverse operations.
Inquiry: In Week 3, students will be busy working away on their design and construction projects. They are learning about the design process and how to create a prototype and test the effectiveness of it. There are multiple stages of the project brief that will be planned, tested, adjusted, and retested throughout the unit. In Week 3, students are encouraged to bring along any RECYCLED materials to support their group construction.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: Term 4 Pillar- Responsibility
In Weeks 3 & 4, Willy Kids are Accountable. Students will learn about how varying professions have differing levels of accountability. Ultimately, they will explore how accountability grows as they do. This is a great lead into the Health Education program content around puberty and personal roles and responsibilities.
Hosting Whole School Assembly:
• Week 4- only 5s at school (6s return from camp)
• Week 6- 5/6E
