Hello Year Two families,
It has been a busy start back to school this term with our Grade 2s beginning their school swimming program. We have been impressed with the level of independence the Grade 2s have shown in getting themselves organised before and after each swim lesson. We will continue to visit Sweeney’s each Wednesday until our final session on November 25. A reminder to please ensure all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name.
Year 2 Sleepover
Last week our Grade 2 Sleepover notes were sent home with our students. It was terrific to see the excitement that is building among our students as they look forward to the night. To assist us with preparation for the Grade 2 Sleepover, please return your child’s medical and dietary forms as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the information that has been sent out, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 3 and 4
Literacy: In Reading, students will continue to complete comprehension activities based on this term’s class novel, ‘James and the Giant Peach.’ In Writing, students will move from working on narrative writing to gathering and note taking facts on mini beasts. Below you will find some photos of a recent literacy lesson where students were searching online texts (using the Epic online student library) for examples of facts and opinions about mini beasts.
Numeracy: Students will explore key concepts linked to Capacity as part of our Measurement unit. We will then move on to revision of place value and subtraction strategies.
Inquiry: This term’s inquiry topic is ‘What’s in My Garden and Why Does is Matter?’ This science based unit explores key concepts linked to recognising key features of living things and understanding what living things need in order to survive.
Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Responsibility, students will explore what it means for Willy Kids to be accountable.
