Celebrating Our Music Program Past and Upcoming Events
It has been a vibrant and exciting term for our Performing Arts program, with our talented students showcasing their musical skills in a range of performances and events.
We began with the VSMF Choir performance on Tuesday 5th August at the Box Hill Salvation Army, where our choir represented the school with great pride and passion. This was followed by a fantastic Stage Band Incursion on Monday 11th August, giving our students the opportunity to refine their craft and learn from industry professionals.
Looking ahead, there are still many highlights on the calendar. Our Jazz Ensemble will take part in the VSMF Jazz Ensemble Section (Monday 8th – Friday 12th September, date TBC) at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, showcasing the talent and dedication of our student musicians. Back at school, we will also be holding a Battle of the Bands, where students will bring their energy and creativity to the stage.
As spring approaches, our community can look forward to the annual Spring Concert, a celebration of music across multiple ensembles and year levels. Rounding out the year, our Young Band will perform in the VSMF Young Band Section (Monday 10th – Friday 14th November, date TBC) at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, giving our younger musicians the chance to shine on a professional stage.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, talent, and teamwork shown by our students, and we look forward to sharing more memorable performances with our school community in the months ahead.

Stage Band wins Silver at VSMF!
Congratulations to the Stage Band, directed by Tim Rex, who were awarded Silver from their performance at the Victorian School Music Festival on Monday 11th September. Adjudicators were impressed with their varied program, and the dynamic variations in their pieces. A special mention goes to Kristina Pelliccia, who learnt the solo part for My Funny Valentine on the morning of the event, due to another band member being unwell. Despite being put under such a high degree of pressure, she executed her solo brilliantly!
Instrumental Assessment Week
We have just held our Instrumental Assessment Week, where all instrumental students completed an individual performance assessment in front of two of our instrumental staff. Our instrumental students are to be commended for the preparation they have put into preparing for their assessment. Feedback will be discussed in upcoming lessons, and will be included in Semester Two reports.
Intermediate Band Visits to Retirement Villages
Next Tuesday, September 16th, we are looking forward to taking our Intermediate Concert Band to perform at two local retirement villages – Cumberland View and Weary Dunlop. It will be great to share our music with some of the senior members of our local community.
