Creating Futures Together

Term 3 in Science

Term 3 has been a productive and engaging time for the Science Faculty, with students across all year levels participating in a wide range of learning experiences.

  • Year 7 studied ecosystems, food webs and food chains, supported by a Zoo excursion that informed their assessment tasks.
  • Year 8 investigated body systems through a series of practical activities, including heart dissections, lung demonstrations, and the “Gums to Bums” presentation. Their learning was further enriched by a performance highlighting the application of science in everyday STEM contexts.
  • Year 9 explored chemistry, focusing on chemical properties, reactions, pH, and ions, with activities culminating in the making of sherbet. Electives in Astronomy and Forensic Science allowed students to extend their learning through the study of space and the practical investigation of crime scenes, including blood spatter and fingerprint analysis.
  • Year 10 studied chemical reactions, ionic bonding, cells, organelles, DNA, and genetics.
  • Year 11 Biology and Psychology students visited the Zoo to investigate animal behaviour, while Chemistry and Physics students undertook a variety of practical investigations in their respective fields.
  • Year 12 students are completing their course content and focusing on examination preparation. We extend our best wishes to all Year 12 students and acknowledge the efforts of their teachers—Mr Meaker (Biology), Mr Patience (Chemistry), Mr Gramatakos (Physics), and Miss Mandarino (Psychology)—for their dedication and commitment.

The Science Faculty looks forward to Term 4 and the new areas of study that await all students
