The Alvernia Collective Frock Swap
Care for our common home
Mount Alvernia College is excited to launch The Alvernia Collective Frock Swap, an initiative of 'The Franciscan Centre for Innovative and Ethical Leadership'.
This is an annual College-wide service and outreach opportunity encouraging sustainable fashion, reducing textile waste and promoting generosity and shared responsibility within our community.
Inspired by our Franciscan values, the initiative invites members of our community to give quality pre-loved clothing a second life while responding to the call of Laudato Si’ to care for our common home. The event also coincides with Sustainability Week at the College.
Donations open now until Wednesday 5 August
We welcome quality pre-loved:
- Dresses, skirts, pants, jeans and shorts
- Tops, shirts, blouses, jackets and coats
- Activewear in good condition
- Formal and occasion wear
- Handbags, scarves, hats and belts
- Clean shoes in very good condition
- Appropriate jewellery and accessories
All donations must be:
- Clean and freshly washed
- In good condition
- Appropriate for secondary school students and a college community
- Submitted in a clearly labelled bag showing the student’s name, year level and house.
Please carefully check all items before donating. Items that do not meet the required standard will be returned.
How the Frock Swap works
Students will receive one swap token for each item accepted. Most clothing and accessories will cost one token, while selected premium items may require two or more tokens. Tokens will be distributed to students on the day of the event.
The Frock Swap will be held in La Foresta on Thursday 6 August, operating during first and second breaks. Students can use their tokens to select donated clothing and accessories. Raffle tickets and baked goods will also be available for purchase, with all funds raised supporting the College’s outreach initiatives.
The evening before the event, students in Years 10-12 will participate in a Vinnies Sleepout and service-learning experience, during which they will sort, prepare and display donated items while learning more about homelessness, social justice, sustainability and the impact of overconsumption.
