NAPLAN 2026 – Information for Parents and Carers
Next week, students in Year 3 and Year 5 will take part in the NAPLAN assessments. NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is a nationwide program that helps schools understand how students are progressing in key areas of learning. The assessments measure student skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The information gathered helps teachers identify strengths, support student learning, and plan future teaching.
At Athol Road Primary School, the NAPLAN schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday 11th March - Writing
Thursday 12th March - Reading
Tuesday 17th March - Language Conventions
Wednesday 18th March - Numeracy
All tests will be conducted in the morning. Teachers will support students throughout the testing period and ensure they feel comfortable and confident.
Parents can help students feel prepared by encouraging a good night’s sleep before each test day, providing a healthy and nutritious breakfast in the morning, and ensuring students arrive at school on time so they can begin the day calmly. It is also helpful to remind children that NAPLAN is simply an opportunity to show what they already know, and that doing their best is what matters most.
If you have any questions about the NAPLAN program, please feel free to contact myself or one of your child’s teachers. Thank you for your continued support.
