More Than Numbers!

Numeracy Update

Mathematics at Fairfield PS

At Fairfield Primary School, we believe mathematics is more than just numbers, it’s about problem solving, reasoning, and discovering patterns in the world around us. We are excited to see our students developing confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning through engaging and purposeful maths experiences in 2026.

A key focus for 2026 is ensuring every student feels appropriately challenged in Mathematics. Our goal is to challenge every learner to grow and achieve their personal best. To support this, we are:

  • Engaging in targeted professional learning for teachers.
  • Surveying students about their level of challenge in maths.
  • Purchasing new high-quality resources to further strengthen teaching and learning across the school.

Below you will find the results of a survey conducted in one of our classes at the beginning of the year. The purpose of this survey was to better understand how students view the level of challenge and support they receive during maths lessons.

Next steps

We will continue to collect this type of data throughout the year and use this information to support teachers in tailoring lessons, providing targeted challenges, and ensuring every student is appropriately supported to reach their full potential in Mathematics.

Our goal is for every child to leave Fairfield as a confident, capable, and curious mathematician, ready to apply their thinking both in and beyond the classroom. We look forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth in Mathematics.
