Year 5
What’s been happening in Art and Science in 5N?
Students of 5N drew inspiration from the art of Maurice Utrillo, exploring his cityscapes and characteristic style to inform their own creations. Through careful observation, they experimented with a variety of techniques such as textured brushwork and layering to mimic Utrillo’s use of muted colours. In classroom discussions, students examined the role of shapes in constructing architectural forms and considered how they could use vanishing points to make their artworks look more realistic.
In term one, Year 5 students explored the topic of forces by conducting hands-on investigations in class. They learned about pushing and pulling, as well as thrust and air resistance. The students made balloon rockets to see how thrust moves objects forward and made parachutes to understand how air resistance slows things down. They also designed and tested simple robots to observe how forces can be used in movement. By doing these activities, the students gained a better understanding of how forces work in everyday life.
Year 6
Our Year 6 and Support Unit students have been enthusiastically participating in Aerobics this term. Through these lessons, students are developing teamwork, coordination, confidence and leadership skills through movement and performance. These sessions support learning outcomes in PDHPE and Dance, as students practise movement sequences, work collaboratively and build fitness and resilience. A special congratulations goes to our Year 6 students that have been selected to take on an Aerobics leadership role, teaching and leading the younger grades with patience, encouragement and maturity. They have been excellent role models within our school community.
