Getting Muddy at Whittakers Lagoon!
Our Year 8s recently traded the classroom for the great outdoors, heading to Whittakers Lagoon for an awesome culture and science day.
We teamed up with the local legends at Yinarrma, scientists from UNE, and the eco-experts at 2rog to learn all about the native plants and grains that grow right here in Moree.
Instead of just reading from textbooks, we got to be real field researchers. We learned how Indigenous communities have used these super-plants for thousands of years, and how they survive the tough Australian climate.
But let’s be honest—the absolute best part of the day? The food! We got to sample local native grains cooked fresh on-site into delicious, warm pancakes. They were a massive hit and proved that local history can taste pretty amazing.
PASS Elective Year 9/10
This term, our Year 9/10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) elective has been diving deep into fundamental and specialised movement skills. To bring these concepts to life, we chose tennis as our primary focus, exploring how foundational motor patterns transition into sport-specific expertise. We have had the privilege of utilising the Moree Tennis Courts, giving students the perfect environment to refine their technical skills, drills, and match-play strategies.
Yr 10 UNE Farming Futures
Year 10 students were invited to attend the UNE Farming Futures presentation in Armidale. Students who attended were shown the Innovation Centre on Kirby SmartFarm a short distance out of Armidale. Here they were told about many different opportunities within the Agricultural Industry and the different pathways to those careers, including TAFE Pathways. They attended four short presentations showing courses and practical learning they may experience should they attend UNE for an Agriculture type degree. These small presentations were about Agronomy, Agricultural Technologies, Sheep Research/Data Science and Animal Science. This was a valuable learning experience to introduce students to some University opportunities and discussions about scholarships, living on campus and more.
Year 10 Military Museum Excursion
Throughout Term 2, Year 10 students are learning about Australians in the Vietnam War. As a way to gain a deeper understanding of Australians involvement and their experiences they visited the Moree Military Museum. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to talk to Vietnam Veterans and learn about artefacts. The students thoroughly enjoyed their experience, it was a very valuable learning opportunity. We appreciate Moree Military Museum for opening today for our excursion and spending two hours sharing their stories and experiences as well as allowing students to be hands on with the artefacts.

Year 9 Certificate I in Workplace Skills students visited our administration staff to learn about the technology they use on a daily basis that assists in their work and the completion of tasks. This was a valuable opportunity to engage with industry professionals.
