NEEDOH AND GEL STRESS BALLS BAN

ST MARY MACKILLOP COLLEGE OH&S COMMITTEE

Following a recent incident and an OH&S review, Nee Doh or gel-filled stress balls are not permitted at school and must not be brought onto school grounds.

This decision has been made for safety and practical reasons:

  • Gel from broken items creates a slipping hazard.
  • The contents spread easily and are difficult to clean.
  • Residue can damage surfaces and materials, including carpets, furniture, and learning resources.
  • These items are being misused, causing disruption and property damage.
  • The gel may cause minor skin or eye irritation if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes.
  • Broken items can leave small fragments or sticky residue, posing additional hazards.
  • Increased risk of cross-contamination on shared surfaces and equipment.
  • Significant time is required for staff to safely clean and manage spills.
  • Potential for gel to be transferred onto walkways, increasing risk beyond the immediate classroom.

We ask that you please ensure your child does not bring these items to school.

Thank you for your support in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
