National Reconciliation Week at TheirCare
This week at Cobram AGS TheirCare, we have been recognising and celebrating National Reconciliation Week through meaningful activities, conversations, and creative experiences with the children.
Reconciliation Week is an important time for all Australians to learn about, reflect on, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and communities. In our program, we focused on encouraging curiosity, respect, inclusion, and understanding in age-appropriate and engaging ways.
Throughout the week, the children participated in:
- Emu in the Sky word searches, learning about an important story and connection to the night sky in Aboriginal culture.
- Aussie Birds memory card games that encouraged teamwork, discussion, and recognition of native wildlife.
- Rainbow Serpent inspired playdough experiences using blue, green, red, yellow, and black colours, representing inspiration from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags while exploring creativity and storytelling through sensory play.
- The children made, different animals out of the play dough. We saw, snakes, platypus, turtles, Koalas and Echidnas. We listened to the Rainbow Serpent, How the kangaroo got its tail and how the turtle got its shell.
These experiences helped create opportunities for children to learn through play, ask questions, share ideas, and build an appreciation for the rich cultures and traditions of First Nations peoples. As an afterschool care program, we value creating an inclusive environment where children feel connected, respectful, and open to learning from one another.
We are proud to support conversations around reconciliation and helping children understand the importance of kindness, respect, belonging, and caring for Country within our everyday program.

Holiday Program
TheirCare is facilitating a school holiday program which is available to Cobram AGS students. This program will be held at Cobram Primary School.
Registrations need to be made on TheirCare's website.
