Beginner Band performance at VSMF

On Monday the 10th of November, the Wheelers Hill Beginner Band participated in the Victorian School Music Festival at Hawthorn Town Hall. The annual festival is an opportunity for the students to perform in a formal setting, and receive feedback from highly esteemed adjudicators directly after their performance. The event is the biggest of the year for the band, and serves as their first performance outside of the Wheelers Hill Secondary community. The students have been working hard in rehearsals and lessons this semester to prepare two pieces for presentation. Their chosen repertoire had many difficult elements of ensemble playing, which has continued to push the students to extend their developing musicianship as individuals and as a band. They were commended on their efforts as an ensemble, and received valuable feedback on the areas where they can continue to develop as they continue their musical journey. They participated in a short workshop with one of the adjudicators after their performance, with a main focus on how they can further develop their sound as an ensemble. As part of the festival, the students were also able to watch other school ensembles perform, and listen to the feedback and workshop delivered, which gives them valuable insights into how other bands perform and sound, and allows them to reflect further on their own playing.Overall, the band had a very successful performance, and should be very proud of their hard work throughout the year and what they have achieved. Next week, they will be travelling to two local primary schools alongside the Intermediate Concert Band to put on a concert for students and staff, and share their music with the Wheelers Hill community.
