Creating Futures Together

Class of 2025 Valedictory Dinner

Last Friday, we officially farewelled the Class of 2025 at the Valedictory Dinner, held at The Grand in Wantirna. Over 300 students, staff, family and friends gathered to honour the graduating class. It was a wonderful evening and a fitting way to celebrate the exceptional young people who are now part of the WHSC alumni. A big thank you to Sharon Sharpe for her organisation of this event.

Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program

Congratulations to Jaiden Williams

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Jaiden Williams of Year 10, who has been successful in gaining a coveted position in the University of Melbourne’s Class of 2027 Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program. Jaiden was selected from more than 2,300 applicants!

About the Program

The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is open to students from all Victorian schools and offers access to exclusive university events and academic enrichment activities across two years. It provides students with the opportunity to experience university life first-hand and to build strong peer networks that will support them throughout their final years of secondary schooling and during their transition to tertiary study.

Since launching in 2007, the program has supported over 9,500 students from more than 500 participating schools. Its inspiration and namesake, Professor Kwong Lee Dow OAM—former University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor, distinguished scholar in education and influential contributor to curriculum reform internationally—continues to play an active role in the program each year.

Well done, Jaiden. We look forward to supporting you throughout this wonderful experience.

VCE Head Start Program

Last week, we held two days of exam feedback sessions before transitioning into our VCE Head Start Program on Wednesday 19 November. This two-week program provides an important introduction to students’ VCE subjects and sets them up for a successful year ahead. Attendance is compulsory, and we appreciate everyone’s support in helping establish strong routines and work practices as our students move into 2026.

Child Safe Standards

Wheelers Hill Secondary College is committed to the safety, participation, empowerment and wellbeing of all young people. Ministerial Order 1359 outlines the specific actions all registered schools must take to meet the eleven Child Safe Standards. We are pleased to confirm that we have successfully met our minimum Child Safe Standards as we continue preparations for our full school review in 2026.

Attendance Reminder

At WHSC, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that brings.

Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, or schoolwork, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.

If your child is having difficulty attending school, please talk to the relevant Learning and Wellbeing Leader about getting support.

We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via Compass so we can work together to support them.

For more information about the importance of everyday attendance, see Attendance and Missing School.
