2025: Moments, Milestones, and Memories

Principal’s Update – Celebrating Learning, Achievement and Opportunity at Wheelers Hill Secondary College

As we approach the end of another productive school year, it’s an ideal time to reflect on the achievements, energy and commitment that have defined Term 4 at Wheelers Hill Secondary College. Across all year levels, students have engaged in a diverse range of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities that truly reflect our values of Excellence, Respect, and Creativity.

VCE Examinations – Commitment and Focus

Our VCE examinations commenced on Monday 28 October and concluded on Monday 17 November. This important period in the academic calendar marks the culmination of years of dedication and learning for our Year 12 students. We are incredibly proud of their effort, maturity, and perseverance throughout these final weeks. The atmosphere on campus has been one of calm focus and encouragement, with staff providing invaluable support and guidance right up to the last exam.

We wish every student the very best as they await their results, confident that their preparation and resilience will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Year 10 and 11 Examinations – Building Confidence for Senior Studies

In preparation for their transition to VCE and VM pathways, our Year 10 and 11 students undertook a formal examination period from Tuesday 5 November to Thursday 14 November. This structured experience is designed to build their understanding of exam expectations, time management, and revision techniques—skills that are vital for success in the senior years.

Students approached these assessments with commendable maturity and focus, and teachers have been impressed with the quality of work and effort demonstrated. These experiences not only assess academic progress but also help students develop the confidence to tackle future challenges with a positive and prepared mindset.

Gala Sports Day – Teamwork, Fun and Participation

One of the most anticipated events of the term was our Gala Sports Day, bringing together Years 7, 8 and 9 for a day of activity, teamwork and friendly competition. Students participated in a wide range of sports including lawn bowls, pickleball, archery, and other team challenges that encouraged collaboration and school spirit.

The day was a wonderful celebration of participation and healthy living, with many students trying new sports for the first time. A special thank you to the PE staff and our student leaders for their organisation and enthusiasm in ensuring everyone enjoyed the day.

The Hill – Art & Technology Exhibition

This term also saw the return of “The Hill – Art and Technology Exhibition”, proudly hosted in our Learning and Wellbeing Centre (LWBC). The exhibition once again highlighted the remarkable creativity and technical skill of our students across a variety of disciplines—visual arts, product design, digital media, and food technology, to name a few.

Families, friends and staff were deeply impressed by the standard of work on display, and it was inspiring to see how students are thinking critically and creatively about design, materials and purpose. Events like The Hill embody the innovative spirit of our learning community.

Road Smart Interactive Incursion – Safety and Awareness

Our Year 9 students participated in the Road Smart Interactive Incursion, a valuable program that promotes safe behaviours and responsible decision-making on and around the road. The interactive format engaged students in real-life scenarios and discussions about risk, safety, and awareness—important lessons as they begin to take on greater independence in their daily lives.

Community Connections and Enrichment

During the recent term break, members of our school community had the extraordinary opportunity to train with the Richmond Football Club. This was an incredible experience that allowed students to learn about teamwork, goal setting, and elite-level performance directly from professional athletes. Such partnerships strengthen our commitment to holistic education and community connection.

Celebrating Music and Performance

Our Beginner Concert Band proudly represented Wheelers Hill Secondary College at the Victorian School Music Festival, held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre. Their performance was a wonderful display of dedication and musical growth, reflecting many hours of rehearsal and collaboration.

Additionally, our Year 11 VCE Music students showcased their talents in an intimate performance evening for family and friends. These performances not only develop musicianship but also build confidence, discipline and a shared appreciation for the performing arts within our school community.

Looking Ahead

As 2025 draws to a close, we are reminded that education extends far beyond the classroom walls. The experiences our students have had this term—from exams and exhibitions to sport and music—demonstrate the rich, diverse learning culture that defines our College.

We thank all staff, students and families for their continued support, enthusiasm and partnership throughout the year. Together, we celebrate the achievements of our students and look forward to an even more inspiring year ahead.
