Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to all of the Year 3 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Friday 30th May. It was a prayerful and reflective time, shared by candidates, families and priests. Thank you to the families and MLA teachers for preparing the candidates, to Fr Pritchard, and Fr Jossy for being with us on Friday and the candidates themselves. May the forgiveness and love of Jesus and God be with you all of your days.
The Feast of Pentecost
On the of 8th June, the Church will celebrate the feast of Pentecost. At Pentecost, we remember when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and Mary, giving them the courage, fruits, gifts and languages to go out into the world and share the Good News and message of Jesus. The feast of Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter and 10 days after Jesus' ascension into Heaven.
Pentecost shares a strong connection to the Sacrament of Confirmation, when candidates are sealed with Gifts of the Holy Spirit, completing the Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church. Through the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, candidates are strengthened to, like the Apostles, go out into the world and share the Good News of Jesus through their actions, words and choices.
Did you know that there is also a connection to the Jewish festival known as the Festival of the Weeks. This festival commemorates Moses receiving the Torah on Mt Sinai. It is celebrated 50 days after Passover. Mary and the Apostles would have been celebrating this festival when the Holy Spirit came upon them.
Did you know that the word Pentecost comes from the Greek word meaning 50th day and that the Liturgical colour for this feast is red.
