Throughout this term’s STEM inquiry unit, we have been learning about contact and non-contact forces. Through experimentation, students explored forces such as push, pull, friction, and gravity, and their impact on the movement of objects.

In the following photos, students were presented with a marble run STEM challenge. The aim of the task was to design the slowest marble run possible. Working collaboratively, they created a course on a table that would slow down the marble’s movement without stopping it completely. Students demonstrated creativity and used trial and error to problem-solve. Once the courses were complete, we used stopwatches to record the duration of each run and evaluated our learning by comparing and discussing the different design ideas.
