Dale Chihuly - Rotolo
The Grade 1 and 2 students continued their study of American glass artist Dale Chihuly by learning about his ‘rotolo’ sculptures.
The Rotolo series (Italian for ‘coil’) is a collection of complex, large-scale abstract glass sculptures characterized by extravagant, twisting coils of glass atop smaller vase forms. The highly physical, monumental works are renowned for their technical mastery and reliance on clear or sparsely coloured glass.
Inspired by his coiled glass, the students decorated coloured transparency paper and cut and coiled them into shape. The pieces of transparency paper were threaded and curled onto a skewer with a bead glued to the top.
