Wominjeka to OSHC

Coordinator: Alexis Simmonds and Assistant Coordinator: Sarah Emerson

8th June  - 19th June 2026

We acknowledge the first peoples of the Kulin Nation, their Dreaming of the past, present and future. We pay our respect for their land by looking after the land we learn and play on.

Family Handbook Update

We are currently reviewing our OSHC Family handbook and in a bid to ensure it is relevant and helpful to our families we asked a few to take it home and review for us.

This ensures the content is relevant and tailored to the families using the service and forms an important part of engaging our community and getting feedback to better our service. If you would be interested in reviewing our handbook and having an active role in bettering our OSHC program, please see Lexi or Sarah or send us an email with your expression of interest.

Learning the art of Kumihimo.

Kumihimo (koo-mee-hee-mo) is a mindful pick-up, put-down activity that involves the traditional art of Japanese braiding, in our case to make friendship bracelets.

Students are provided with wool, an octagonal cardboard tool and are given a quick tutorial of the steps and away they go. The end result is an intricately braided bracelet for them to wear or give to a friend. The process as a whole challenges student’s patience and persistence as results take a little while to see, the braiding itself builds students fine motor skills.

It’s been the perfect activity that children can pick up and do for 10 minutes, leave and do something else and then come back to later on. The results have been beautiful and the sense of achievement in students shown, with some of them going on to peer teach others starting out.

World Cup fever

The hype over the World cup beginning this past weekend has been high. Due to popular request we have been watching the live matches at Before Care which have brought together many different children for a common interest. It has opened up conversations surrounding different nationalities, different countries and the obvious ins and outs of the game. This has filtered outdoors with large soccer matches happening with a range of ages and abilities taking part. Educators have facilitated a couple of these matches however they have been primarily driven by the students.
